Daylight Lightning

Description

I appologize for yet another lightning photo. It would seem that my subjects are slowly narrowing down to kittens and lightning. This will be the last for a long time, well, unless I get a really good one. I've wanted a shot of lightning during the day since I saw a photo of a bolt over the grand canyon during the day in a recent National Geographic.

I've also decided to start putting more detailed descriptions of the photos as I've started requesting more advanced critiques (see `londonxpress's journal [link] for the suggested browse DA by advanced critique, a great idea). Let me know if you think I've left anything out of my description.

The Setup: Nothing really special this time. Tripod on a 12th storie(sp?) balcony. I made sure to choose the smallest aperature value to allow for the longest possible exposure during the day. Keeping in mind if it was too small the buildings would become too dark. I think I could've had more luck with this had I had a ND filter but I don't have any for my 18-70mm. The whole idea with shooting lightning is shoot alot, shoot long exposures, and shoot alot. For every photo of lightning I get at night I have atleast 10 blanks, double to triple the number of blanks when shooting in daylight as was the case with this.

Great photo!
I understand the difficulties of daylight lightning captures, let along having one compose itself nicely (other then where we point the camera at the time).

Real nice work! :D
